People Who Help Us!

This week we are starting a brand new topic 'People Who Help Us'. Within this topic we will be looking at the Emergency Services and people who are here to help us within the school environment!
During this week we will be concentrating on Hospitals, Doctors and Nurses and also looking at the roles of personnel in school.
Please take a few minutes to take a look at the Balloons picture that will be sent home on Sunday - displaying what activities will be covered within each area of the curriculum.
If you have any bits and pieces that you feel would benefit this topic and in particular doctor or nurses equipment, I would be most grateful!

International Day 2009

International Day was a huge success this year! We started the day watching an amazing show in the main hall, where many countries were represented by a wonderful display of costumes, songs and artifacts!
FS1D had 2 of our very own little stars on stage - so, many congratulations to Miss. Lottie for Australia and Miss. Tiara for Korea, very brave!!
I do hope that the Little Monkeys enjoyed their day and that they were able to tell you all about it!
Many thanks to Hashim's Mum, who kindly had some photos printed of our class in their gorgeous outfits - please see the classroom window!
I really would like to also say "THANK-YOU" to all parents for putting so much time and effort into the children's costumes - they looked amazing! Well done!

International Day 2009

Thursday 29th January is International Day at JPS.
This is a very exciting day where we can all celebrate the vast number of nationalities that makes JPS so very special!
The children will tour the school and watch the performance during the day and parents are more than welcome to tour the school from 1.10pm onwards.
I look forward to seeing all the Little Monkeys in a costume tomorrow that represents their home country!

Traditional Tales Week 4

Our final week of Traditional Tales has included the adventures of 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'Hansel & Gretel'.
The children had a go at baking some delicious Gingerbread Men shaped cookies and they did a marvellous job at decorating them!
I would like to thank all those parents who have contributed to the box and sweetie wrapper appeal we had in class - we now have enough bits and pieces to produce some very interesting sweetie houses for the Hansel & Gretel project.
Thanks & have a fabulous weekend!!

FS1D had a fantastic time at Safa 2 Park. The day started off a little chilly but we all soon warmed up as soon as the gorgeous Dubai sunshine came out!
The children had fun exploring the climbing equipment, played some Traditional games such as, ' What's the time Mr.Wolf?' and feasted on a delicious picnic.
The Monkeys behaviour was impeccable! Well Done !

Safa 2 Trip

Tuesday 20th January
We are heading to Safa 2 on a school trip tomorrow!
Please ensure all children have their snacks in a disposable bag and that they bring along a special teddy to share the occasion!
See you tomorrow

Traditional Tales Week 3

This is a very busy week for FS1 this week. Aswell as Sports Day and a school trip to Safa 2, the Monkeys Class are looking at the Traditional Tales, 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'Cinderella'. So far this topic, we have explored how a story is put together, with a beginning, middle and an end. We have discussed the title of a book and which part of the book the spine is. The children have discovered who an author is and that this information is also featured on a book cover!
With the use of Role Play and a variety of props the children have had a go at acting out these popular Traditional Tales that we have loved for many years and that are still as popular as ever today!
Please discuss with your child the characters involved in the Traditional Tales that you know, their feelings and actions, this is a great way to link home and school together!

Sunday 18th January 2009

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to FS1D!!
I would like to say 'Well done' to the little Monkeys on a very successful Sports Day!
Everyone had a wonderful morning and am very grateful for the tremendous support you as parents offered to your children and to the class as a whole!
If you have any photographs that you could pass onto me of the Monkeys Class - I would be most grateful! ( mkofteros@jpsdubai.sch.ae )
Once again, many thanks!

'Sports Day' Sunday 18th January - 8am to 9.30am

Sports Day is fast approaching and the children have been practicing hard!
We do hope that you can all join us to cheer on your little "Monkeys".
On Sunday, I would really appreciate it if you can send the children to school in their PE kits ready for action!
In the event that Sports Day is 'cancelled' due to the weather, we will try and contact you as early as possible. A text message will be sent from Shahmir's Mummy, Mahine. We hope this will not be the case & that we can all enjoy this fantastic event!
Enjoy your weekend & see you on Sunday!

Monday, January 5, 2009

We started off the second term today with a brand new topic, 'Traditional Tales'. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring and discussing the adventures of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Throughout this week we will be talking about how Goldilocks felt as she entered the 3 Bears Cottage and finally when she awoke to see the bears staring down at her! We will also be producing a number of pieces of artwork to complete a display for the FS1 corridor.

I would also like to introduce a new member of our class to you. Grace Clare started with us today, from the UK and I am sure you will join me in wishing Grace and her family a very warm welcome to Dubai and to FS1D!
